Brown Lipsticks For Dark Skin!

The brown lipstick trend is great for giving us darker-skinned folk an opportunity to find nude lipsticks that won’t look ashy. But I’m still on the hunt for darker browns that will properly channel the 90s look we’re going for! Here are three drugstore products and one mid-range option I’ve found so far.

Top to Bottom: NYX Slim Lip Pencil in 802 Brown, L’Oréal Colour Riche in 180 Silky Java, Maybelline Color Sensational in 950 Untainted Spice, MAC Lipstick in Paramount.

NYX SLIM LIP PENCIL IN BROWN

NYX Slim Lip Pencil in Brown is quite drying and does exaggerate creases in the lips. Make sure to apply a lip balm and then wait for it to dry a bit before you apply the liner, otherwise the colour will not apply well.

NYX SLIM LIP PENCIL IN BROWN W/L’ORÉAL COLOUR RICHE IN 802 SILKY JAVA

The texture of L’Oréal’s Colour Riche is extremely comfortable, especially over a dry lip liner. While this lipstick is not especially opaque it becomes a dark rich brown when paired with a liner.

MAYBELLINE UNTAINTED SPICE

I had difficulty getting an accurate shot of Maybelline’s Color Sensational in Untainted Spice. It’s darker and browner than the picture above. On yellow toned skin that combination makes it almost look gray. It’s a rather unusual colour that I haven’t seen before.

MAC PARAMOUNT

MAC Paramount is the darkest brown I’ve found that’s flattering on darker skin. On yellow toned skin however, it does pull more red.

Other Options

NYX Enamoured Simply Vamp Lip Cream might work although it might go a bit purple on pigmented lips.

Jaclyn Hill Gerard Lipstick in 1995 might be good option if you’re on the fairer side, but it’s got a bit of red in it. It may be worth checking out as you can easily find coupon codes. Paired with a brown lip liner it may just be brown enough.

NYX Matte Lipstick in Maison is a gray brown that looks great on East Asian women, especially those with darker skin.
