Color Sprays! Having Fun With Your Hair!

By

I’m sure many of you have, at some point, looked at your hair in the mirror and flirted with the idea of getting a radical change in terms of color and going for something totally feisty and bold. There’s very few though, who actually go through the trouble of getting it done as it can be a big leap of faith to get yourself to experiment with bright or neon colors, and carrying it around for a while.

With the introduction of some new products recently, playing around with bright colors has become quite easy to do. L’Oreal came out with the ‘Hair Chalk’ earlier this year and label.m introduced its Powder Pink spray with recent additions to the range with Powder Red, Powder Blue and Powder Purple sprays. The Powder Pink spray was featured in Xiao Li’s show during London Fashion Week in February and all the models’ hair was sprayed pink. This created tremendous buzz and excitement and it was a lot of fun doing this as well (I was in the session team for this show!)

The good news is that you do not need to be blonde for the colors to pop out as these sprays work equally well on brunettes. The best part is that the colors wash out in a single wash, so you can experiment as much as you like. These sprays are quite simple to use: you just spray the product onto your hair and build it up if you want the color to stand out more. For example, if you want really bright purple or green hair, then keep spraying till you get the desired shade. If you want to tone down the color, all you need to do is allow it to dry out for a minute, and then brush through the colored strands. It is recommended that at the time of application, you can either wear a gown or an old t-shirt to avoid getting color on your clothes. You could also place a sheet of paper under your hair and spray from a distance of 15-20 cm.

OMBRE

Now, let me suggest some styles that you can get with these sprays. Ombre is still quite popular nowadays and you can get this look with the color of your choice by dividing your hair in sections and spraying the strands lightly at the top and building up the color by spraying more as you go downwards.

COLOR BLOCKING

Another trend that comes straight from the runway is color blocking. Place a sheet of paper beneath your hair and spray the color onto specific sections.

HIGHLIGHTS

You can also add colorful highlights to your hair. Use the sheet of paper as mentioned above on different strands of hair and spray on streaks with varying intensity of color. If you want to be really adventurous, you can play around with more than one shade and add multi-colored streaks all over your hair or different blocks of color using stencils as well.

Pick up your favorite shade (or shades) and dazzle and surprise everyone with a new funky hair color every time! Play around with the styles and shades of color. You’ll get better every day and by the time your can is about to finish, you’ll be yearning to get another one because you’ll realize that the real fun has just begun.
