3 Simple DIY Hair Masks
Aside from walking into the salon and choosing from a list of hair treatments, it can be a refreshing change to try something out at home as well. I’ve put together three simple DIY hair masks that your hair can benefit from greatly, no matter what your hair type is. Sometimes, spending some quality time, preparing a concoction on your own and seeing the results can feel truly rewarding.
Nourishing Strawberry Hair Mask
Strawberries are fantastic – delicious to eat, lovely to look at and wonderful to smell. This fruit, which is also classified as a superfood, is loaded with vitamin C which helps in nourishing hair. Strawberries are the perfect ingredient for scalp oil control and help in rinsing away excessive oil build-up.
Take a handful of strawberries (around seven for medium-long hair length), a tablespoon each of coconum oil and honey and blend these all together into a fine puree. Apply this mixture to damp hair, working from the roots to the end of your hair strands. Let it set for about 30 minutes and then rinse well with warm water. Shampooing is optional, but the smell of strawberries is good enough to make you think twice about shampooing!
Moisturizing Banana Hair Mask
Bananas are one of the few fruits available all year round. They are super rich in potassium, vitamins, antioxidants and contain natural oils and moisture. A homemade banana hair mask with its amazing moisturizing properties helps in strengthening hair, preventing breakage and split ends, maintaining natural hair elasticity as well as making your hair appear bouncy and healthy.
Take two overripe bananas, one tablespoon each of coconut oil, olive oil and honey. Blend the bananas first completely and then add honey, coconut and olive oil and blend again. Apply the mixture onto your scalp, from roots till ends and leave it for five minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
Nutrifying Egg Mask
Eggs are a very rich source of protein, in addition to vitamins and other good stuff. Yes, they smell and washing it out takes some effort but it’s definitely worth it! Your hair will immediately feel lustrous and glossy.
Take one egg, half a cup of milk, half a lemon and two tablespoons of olive oil for this mask. First, separate the egg white from the yolk and beat the egg yolk well. Add the milk and olive oil and mix. Next, squeeze the lemon and mix well together. Massage well into the scalp, working from roots to ends. Leave it for 15 minutes and then rinse it off. You can shampoo once or twice, but for the final cleanse, use an organic fruit shampoo for the best results.
