Nose Piercings : The Quick Guide On How To Rock The Look

By

There’s something so fierce about girls who wear a nose ring, something about how you need a certain bit of attitude to carry off the entire look – something I’ve always envied for a good part of my life. I remember when Sania was in the news more than a decade ago for her nose-ring – some even asked that she take it off, which she obviously didn’t give in to and the style statement went on to inspire so many young women to embrace the trend.

Pierced noses are very common in desi culture. The nose is a very attractive and prominent feature in one’s face – if you’ve always wanted to sport a nose piercing but didn’t really get around to doing it here’s some tips and inspiration !

Which side of the nose should you get pierced ?

Nostril Piercings – These piercings are done on either the left or right side of the nostril, or both, usually in or around the Supra Alar Crease, which is the indented area where the nostril first starts to flare. The more unusual version of this is the high nostril piercing, which requires placing smaller jewelry (~20g) through the nostril at a higher point, closer to the nasal bridge. It can be tricky to change high nostril piercing jewelry yourself; definitely ask your piercer to help you the first time.

Septum Piercings – These piercings go through the “sweet spot”, which is the soft tissue between the Columella (underside of your nose) and the bottom end of the septum, which divides your nose. Septum piercings should not go through the cartilage itself; that mistake can be extremely painful.

Should I get a ring or a stud ?

This really depends on what you think you can carry off better. A stud is more demure while a ring is more pronounced. It also depends on the statement you’re looking to make with the overall look. Personally, I prefer rings as they are edgy, fun and so grunge!

Is it painful ?

Definitely. Any piercing is going to cost you a little pain because, you’re technically creating a wound in the body (ouch) . A septum piercing is going to be way more painful than a regular piercing because the cartilage is more delicate. Please make sure you visit a qualified expert who uses clean, sterlised needles/guns for the piercing.

How do I wear the look ?

Here’s some inspiration from the reigning queens on how you can rock the nose piercing :
