Three Key Hair Trends for A/W 2014

By

Three key hair trends were identified by Toni&Guy during London Fashion Week, which took place in February this year. There were 77 designers showing their collections this year at LFW, out of which the hair was done by Toni&Guy for around 35 designers’ shows. I was also part of the Toni&Guy Session Team and had a great time backstage, as I got the chance to view firsthand what trends we were going to be seeing in the upcoming season. These three hair trends were also seen in demand at various other runaways from other major fashion weeks, so rest assured, this is what hair is going to be looking like in the coming season.

Precision Plaiting

Braids are back and let there be no doubt about that! This is a truly versatile look that can be worn in many different ways.  Ranging from perfectly polished to boho-chic and out-of-control rockstar, interweaving locks is a sure shot way of keeping your strands in style, be it fishtails, mermaid, plain milkmaid braids or even braided buns. Amongst others, it was showcased by Jean-Pierre Braganza and Ashley Isham at the London Fashion Week and by Valentino at the Milan Fashion Week 2013.

Twisted Tresses

Twisted tresses is a 1940s-inspired hairstyle that was seen trending at the runaways this year. To achieve this look, separate hair into three sections: two sides at the front and a back section. Begin twisting each side at the hairline, continuing to the back, pinning the hair as you go on. Do this till you reach the ends of your hair and then crisscross and wrap them around the nape of the neck. Lightly texturize your strands by roughly drying it with a blow dryer to finish it off. This look was seen at LFW by designers Apu Jan and Tata Naka. It was also showcased by Carolina Herrera.

Undone Texture

Totally 90’s, this is one of those hair trends that don’t seem to go out of fashion. Essentially, this hairstyle is a relaxed version of beach waves. The key products used to make this hairstyle are Sea Salt Spray (I recommend the one by label.m, which is also the Official Haircare Product for LFW) and a curling iron. The perfect size of the curling iron for this hairdo is 1½ inch but 1 inch can work as well. Instead of curling the root or the ends, just do a spin with the iron in the middle part of the hair and then take your blowdryer to roughen up the look further.  Giles and Yulia Kondrania had this look at LFW and Alexander Wang at New York Fashion Week.
