5 Ways to Prevent Hair Fall

By

Are you tired of playing your hand through your hair and finding it full of loose strands? Lots of stress, an unbalanced diet and a lack of a proper routine are just a few causes of hair loss.

1. Give it Oil

There are so many oils that have healing properties for your hair: so use them! If you find yourself giving excuses like you don’t like the greasy feel even after you’ve washed your hair, opt for a kind that’s not as thick and plan to put it on a Wednesday if you’re a working/school-going woman. That way you have the weekend to scrub it out of your hair. Take any natural oil, warm it up a little bit and if you can bribe someone to do it for you, massage it all the way into your scalp. If getting oil everywhere once its in your hair is your concern, wrap it up in a shower cap or a long piece of clothing.

Along with a healthy dose of Vitamin A (pumpkin, mangoes and carrots), Vitamin E (wheat germ, almond, avocado, coconut) and Vitamin C (amla, guava, lemon and citrus fruits), you need to consume healthy fats so that your body can absorb these vitamins. Omega 3 fatty acids found in fish and walnuts and cold pressed oil like olive and mustard help absorb these vitamins for a healthy you and stronger hair.

2. Eat Right

Your hair, like the rest of your body, needs the right foods and nutrients to grow, shine and be healthy! Your hair needs Vitamin A (mangoes, pumpkin and carrots), Vitamin E (almonds, avocado and coconuts), omega-3 fatty acids (fish and walnuts) and oils like olive and mustard for strong hair. If you’re like most of the people that can’t seem to include every vitamin in your diet, try going for vitamin tablets!

3. Keep Your Hair Hydrated

Follow a haircare regimen that hydrates and takes care of your hair at least once a week. Invest a little in leave-in conditioners, or follow a few DIY hair masks at home if you don’t want to spend.

DIY Egg & Yogurt Hair Mask

What you will need

  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey (warm)
  • 3 – 4 tablespoons yogurt
  • 1 lemon, freshly squeezed

Mix all the ingredients. Part your hair evenly and apply thin layers to your scalp. Once done, tie your hair in a bun and cover it with a cotton cloth. Leave on for 45 minutes and then wash with warm water.

tip: Be sure to deodorize your tub after, or it will reek of egg. I usually wash my hair in the sink first and then shower.

4. Say Goodbye to Heat

One of the major reasons we don’t have as good hair as our older family members is because we expose our hair to so much heat and chemicals! Keep away your straighteners, curling rods and blow dryers because they’re killing your hair. However, for many of us, it’s become more of a necessity now and it must be done; for those, how about buying one of those heat protection products that you can stock up from Danube. Apply it on your strands after a shower whilst they’re still wet and cross your fingers for the health of your hair.

5. Sleep it Off

It’s not emphasized enough if you’re not doing it already; sleep is ESSENTIAL! When you sleep, your body repairs and your cells regenerate themselves. When you miss hours of quality sleep, apart from the obvious lack of energy, the lost fuel is what provides your hair the nutrients it needs. They don’t call it beauty sleep for no reason!

Also, 4 cups of coffee don’t = 4 hours of sleep!

Bonus Tips!

  • – Make a trip to the salon and get your hair trimmed at least once in two months to get rid of split ends and unhealthy tips
  • – Avoid tying hair too tight for long periods of time because it puts a strain on them
  • – Opt for cold or lukewarm water when washing your hair; hot water weakens your hair
