Workout Myths Busted : The Desi Girl Edition

If you grew up in a desi household, chances are that either through friends, family, relatives or just the community, you have heard these myths!!!

1 ) Girls aren’t supposed to workout

Really? Then should we just sit around at home and eat roti all day? How else are we supposed to keep our heart healthy, our energy levels up, keep up with our careers AND chase kids around?

2) Whey protein will make you bulky

Quite untrue. Whey protein, just like any other food you consume has a breakdown of macro and micro nutrients. Whey protein can be used as a substitute if you are not getting adequate protein in your diet. It is the building blocks for muscle recovery.

3) “Its OKAY. Eat this Pakora! Nothing will happen”

Well. It all depends now. This is probably something you will hear from an auntie who doesn’t know or understand your current regime. If you are on a clean eating streak and you eat something that you haven’t had in a while (fried foods), you may feel bloated or gassy after consuming something fried or “off” your clean eating plan. A pakora wont make you obese over time, but consuming a lot, or even after a workout, are def initely NOT recommended

4) Don’t lift HEAVY weights

Heavy weights is where it is at ladies!! If you want a toned, sleek look, then you need to increase the weights you lift (gradually). Weights build muscle. Muscle will make you look lean. Women think that lifting heavy will make them look like men. FALSE!! Men have testosterone, that helps them boost muscle development and growth. Unless women take steroids or PURPOSEFULLY try to build huge muscles, you won’t accidentally end up looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger!

5) Only do Cardio

Again. Without lifting weights, you won’t be able to get that tone sleek look. Cardio is required for cardiovascular health, but you also need to lift weights for body composition toning and bone density support. Keep both balanced.
