Priyanka Chopra At The Oscars

By

Even as the Oscar fever is slowly dying down, one boss girl who’s made a powerful statement and made everyone sit up and notice, was our own Piggy Chops AKA Priyanka Chopra. Her great style, undeniable presence and confidence even as she presented an award and made a powerful statement on skin color bias has left at least me, a fan (and I’m not exactly the easiest to please!)

Here’s what she wore for the Awards ceremony :

Look 1 – Princessy Perfection by Zuhair Murad

Though some naysayers may argue that the gown was too disney, too bridal or too reminiscent of something Jlo wore to the awards last year, you cannot deny how perfect PC looked in it. The gown was designed by Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad and wasn’t really a “show-stealer” in Oscar terms. It was a classic piece, one that let PC blend with the crowd rather than stand out, which in my opinion was a very wise choice. Isn’t it about time our desi ladies stop dressing OTT all the time ? I remember Ashwariya Rai’s faux pas at the Cannes film festival a few years ago where she wore a bright black and gold sari with gaudy jewelry! EWWW 🙁

Priyanka looked every inch the girl boss she is in this look which she completed with a whopping $8 mn of jewelry. Again, haters had to lot to say about this, but guess what – she earned all of it, so she’s worth it. Let’s leave it at it.

I loved the shift from bold makeup and a look-at-me hairdo, to the soft earthy lip color and makeup opted for by PC, it let her personality do the talking and made her come off as confident and sexy, and not as someone who was trying too hard.

Look 2 : Sequinned Dream by Jenny Packham

I never really expected PC to wear a Jenny Packham outfit to be honest because Jenny Packham is just so… Kate Middleton, if I may ? Marchesa and Ralph and Russo would’ve still been second guesses for me but PC surprised the world again when she blended right in with the Oscars A-list of Rachel McAdams (who really needed to get her outfit ironed before wearing it btw) when she chose this unconventional outfit.

She repeated her earlier ponytail and wore dangling diamond earrings to complete the look, keeping her makeup muted like the earlier look.

Which dress did she wear better? I’d have to say it was the first one; I personally believe the bold front slit and the umbrella flounce on the JP dress wasn’t very flattering on Priyanka, even though she has a perfectly toned body.

She also had this to say when asked about diversity at the Oscars:

“Art shouldn’t be defined by the color of your skin.”

“You should get the job because you’re the best person for the job.”

Also, later that evening Priyanka Chopra at the Oscars was the second-most searched person on Google, after heartthrob Leo Di Caprio, who incidentally won his first Oscar after 23 years of acting.

Priyanka will soon be shooting for Baywatch, the movie, where the plays the villain.

More power to you, girl. It’s your time to shine!
